YdcW encodes gamma-aminobutyraldehyde dehydrogenase (ABALDH) in the wild-type Escherichia coli(strain K12). It is a tetramer and when coupled with YgjG putrescine transaminase in vitro, putrescine was converted into gamma-aminobutyric acid []. The tetramer is composed of identical subunits.
