Description:  Smooth muscle myosin light chain kinase is a Ser/Thr protein kinase, contains 1 fibronectin type-III domain and 9 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains (based on similarity to other like proteins). These kinases phosphorylate a specific serine in the N terminus of a myosin light chain, which leads to the formation of calmodulin/MLCK signal transduction complexes, which allow selective transduction of calcium signals. In this reaction magnesium and calcium act as cofactors and the kinases are activated by phosphorylation on Tyr-478 (), ().
