This enzyme shows considerable homology to Cys--tRNA ligases, and many proteins are wrongly annotated as such. Mycothiol is found in Mycobacterium tuberculosis[], Corynebacterium glutamicum(Brevibacterium flavum), Streptomyces coelicolor, and various other members of the Actinobacteria.
