OPT3 can mediate the H+-coupled transport of peptides, but functions mainly as a H(+) channel. It is expressed exclusively in neurons. OPT3 probably plays an important role in the maintenance of H(+) homeostasis and in the clearance of peptides arising from neuropeptide metabolism []. Short Name:  Pept-3
