Protein Domain : IPR027742

Type:  Family Name:  Protein hunchback
Description:  A number of genes of the developmental gene hierarchy in Drosophila encode transcription factors containing Cys2His2 zinc finger domains as DNA-binding motifs []. One of these is hunchback, a gap gene of the segmentation regulatory network. It coordinates the expression of other gap genes, including Kruppel, knirps, and giant in central and posterior regions of cellularising embryos []. Hunchback is an important player in sequential cell fate specification in the Drosophila central nervous system [] and in axis formation and segmentation [, ].Caenorhabditis elegans homologue (Hunchback-like) contains two putative zinc-finger domains similar to those of Drosophila Hunchback. It is required for late stages of development, but not early embryonic patterning []. Short Name:  Hunchback
