Description:  Members of this family are spindle pole body (SBP) components such as Spc97, Spc98 and gamma-tubulin. The SPB functions as the microtubule-organising centre in yeast, with the microtubule cytoskeleton playing an essential role in chromosome segregation, cellular organisation and vesicle trafficking in eukaryotic cells. In most cells, the centrosome is the primary microtubule-organising centre that nucleates and organises microtubules. Gamma-tubulin localises to centrosomes and is required for microtubule nucleation. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, gamma-tubulin forms a stable complex with Spc97 and Spc98 []. Short Name:  TUBGCP
