Protein Domain : IPR011821

Type:  Family Name:  O-succinylhomoserine (thiol)-lyase
Description:  This family consists of O-succinylhomoserine (thiol)-lyase, one of three different enzymes designated cystathionine gamma-synthase and involved in methionine biosynthesis. In all three cases, sulphur is added by transsulphuration from Cys to yield cystathionine rather than by a sulphhydrylation step that uses H2S directly and bypasses cystathionine. The CGS enzyme () from Escherichia coliis, like other CGS enzymes, a homotetramer composed of two catalytically active dimers []. The active site of each dimer is found at the interface between the monomers and involves residues from each monomer. Catalysis occurs by alpha,gamma-elimination/replacement reactions. Short Name:  O_succ_thio_ly
