GO Term : GO:0015483 long-chain fatty acid transporting porin activity GO

Namespace:  molecular_function Obsolete:  false
description  Enables the transfer of long-chain fatty acids from one side of the membrane to the other. A long-chain fatty acid is a fatty acid with a chain length between C13 and C22. This transporter is a porin and so enables the energy independent passage of substances, sized less than 1000 Da, across a membrane. The transmembrane portions of porins consist exclusively of beta-strands which form a beta-barrel. They are found in the outer membranes of Gram-negative bacteria, mitochondria, plastids and possibly acid-fast Gram-positive bacteria.

Identifier Name Description
GO:0006810 transport The directed movement of substances (such as macromolecules, small molecules, ions) into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, or within a multicellular organism by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
GO:0055085 transmembrane transport The process in which a solute is transported across a lipid bilayer, from one side of a membrane to the other
GO:0022857 transmembrane transporter activity Enables the transfer of a substance from one side of a membrane to the other.
GO:0005215 transporter activity Enables the directed movement of substances (such as macromolecules, small molecules, ions) into, out of or within a cell, or between cells.
GO:0022891 substrate-specific transmembrane transporter activity Enables the transfer of a specific substance or group of related substances from one side of a membrane to the other.
GO:0005216 ion channel activity Enables the facilitated diffusion of an ion (by an energy-independent process) by passage through a transmembrane aqueous pore or channel without evidence for a carrier-mediated mechanism. May be either selective (it enables passage of a specific ion only) or non-selective (it enables passage of two or more ions of same charge but different size).
GO:0006811 ion transport The directed movement of charged atoms or small charged molecules into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
GO:0034220 ion transmembrane transport A process in which an ion is transported from one side of a membrane to the other by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
GO:0015075 ion transmembrane transporter activity Enables the transfer of an ion from one side of a membrane to the other.
GO:0006869 lipid transport The directed movement of lipids into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore. Lipids are compounds soluble in an organic solvent but not, or sparingly, in an aqueous solvent.
GO:0006820 anion transport The directed movement of anions, atoms or small molecules with a net negative charge, into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
GO:0005319 lipid transporter activity Enables the directed movement of lipids into, out of or within a cell, or between cells.
GO:0015267 channel activity Enables the energy-independent facilitated diffusion, mediated by passage of a solute through a transmembrane aqueous pore or channel. Stereospecificity is not exhibited but this transport may be specific for a particular molecular species or class of molecules.
GO:0008509 anion transmembrane transporter activity Enables the transfer of a negatively charged ion from one side of a membrane to the other.
GO:0015288 porin activity Catalysis of the transfer of substances, sized less than 1000 Da, from one side of the membrane to the other. The transmembrane portions of porins consist exclusively of beta-strands which form a beta-barrel. They are found in the outer membranes of Gram-negative bacteria, mitochondria, plastids and possibly acid-fast Gram-positive bacteria.
GO:0009987 cellular process Any process that is carried out at the cellular level, but not necessarily restricted to a single cell. For example, cell communication occurs among more than one cell, but occurs at the cellular level.
GO:0015711 organic anion transport The directed movement of organic anions into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore. Organic anions are atoms or small molecules with a negative charge which contain carbon in covalent linkage.
GO:0098656 anion transmembrane transport A process in which an anion is transported from one side of a membrane to the other by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
GO:0044763 single-organism cellular process Any process that is carried out at the cellular level, occurring within a single organism.
GO:0044699 single-organism process A biological process that involves only one organism.
